Using the Dashboard Templates

Dashboards Templates are currently available for customers using Endpoint Agents, Cloud & Enterprise Agents to monitor their network and application performance.
Dashboard Templates are an easy and efficient way to monitor your organization's end-to-end digital experience. The dashboard templates enable you to apply data visualization best practices quickly.
In scenarios where you need to monitor a large amount of test data and rely on other teams to create dashboards for you, Dashboard Templates can help you monitor the test results more efficiently and remove the need for external support. Similarly, deploying Dashboard Templates can ensure consistency and help you adopt best practices for managing multiple account organizations.
ThousandEyes recommends identifying the tests and agents you would like to monitor before deploying the Dashboard Template.
You need to have the following permissions to deploy a Dashboard Template:
Edit labels
Edit dashboards for all users in account group
View test templates
To deploy a Dashboard Template:
On the Dashboards page, click the +New button.
Select Dashboard.
Select the desired data source from the Data Source drop-down.
Select the desired template from the available templates corresponding to the selected data source. The table below lists all the available Dashboard Templates.
Enter the dashboard title, and name of the default filter set, add the description, and select the tests to be displayed in the dashboard.
Click Save Dashboard to create the dashboard.
The following information about each template is provided in the main table:
To understand how to make the most of your dashboard, let's consider the following use cases:
Create a new dashboard using the API Health Dashboard template (follow the above-mentioned instructions).
Select tests from the Web-API category while configuring the dashboard.
In the new dashboard, use the alerts list at the top of the dashboard to see the latest alerts triggered by your tests.
To monitor the health of your APIs, use the number card widgets. Monitor the API transaction times, error types, completion, and network health metrics. This will give you a comprehensive understanding of API performance.
If your performance is lower than expected, use the map and time series widgets to diagnose if there was an issue impacting a specific location, or if it was a generalized incident. You can investigate further by using the drill down feature in Views. See Troubleshooting with Dashboard Drill Down to learn more.
Create a new dashboard using the End User Helpdesk Dashboard template (follow the above-mentioned instructions).
Select the desired agents (by default all the agents are selected) that you intend to monitor. You can further filter the agents via the labels and the operating systems.
In this case, you can monitor the Memory and CPU usage. If your performance is lower than expected, you can investigate further by using the drill down feature in Views. See Troubleshooting with Dashboard Drill Down to learn more.
After deployment, you can schedule snapshots to get regular updates sent to you or your team directly.
Your new dashboard comes with a new filter set unless all agents are selected for Endpoint Agent related dashboards. Additionally for Cloud and Enterprise based dashboards a new test label will be created. The dashboard title will be associated with the new test label and assigned to your selected tests or agents. As you create more tests, you can assign them to the label, so that it populates into your new dashboard. You can learn more about the dashboard filters here
Some widgets may have instructions to update the widget to be more specific. Review widget titles to ensure the appropriate tests are displayed.
New dashboards created through templates are visible to all members of the account organization in which you created your new dashboard. You can also review your dashboard and change the visibility of your new dashboard. To do this click on the '...' pull down in the upper right of the dashboard and click Edit Dashboard.
Most dashboards deployed from a template will come with a default filter set, which can be reused with other dashboards in the account group.
In scenarios where the available templates do not cater to your requirements, you can use the Blank Dashboard template to create and customize a dashboard as per your specific needs.
To deploy a Blank Dashboard Template:
On the Dashboards page, click the +New button.
Select Dashboard.
Select the Start with a blank dashboard option at the top of the list of available templates.
Enter the Name, Description, and select the desired Labels from the drop down.
Customize the Default Settings as desired. For more information, refer to the Customizing your Dashboard article.
Click the Create Dashboard button at the bottom to confirm.
