Migrating to Single Interval for Page Load Tests

This page describes customer actions that may be required if you currently have page load tests configured with different test frequencies (intervals) for the page load and HTTP server test layers. As part of releasing Views 2.0, these two intervals are consolidated into a single “Interval” test setting for page load tests. If you have page load tests that specify two different test intervals, you will be asked to specify a new test interval the next time you edit the test configuration. Once selected, Page Load and HTTP Server test layers will both run on this new interval.

To ensure that your unit consumption does not increase while keeping the previous HTTP Server interval, you can adjust your page load tests following the recommendations in the table below. You must choose a new single interval yourself, and then specify a new page load timeout as suggested in the table:

  1. Look up your current page load interval first, under Retiring Page Load Interval.

  2. Read across and down to find your current HTTP server interval under Retiring HTTP Server Interval.

  3. Read across to find the new suggested single interval under New Interval, and suggested page load timeout under Recommended Page Load Timeout.

  4. Adjust your test interval and page load timeout under Cloud & Enterprise Agents > Test Settings.

The table below uses the HTTP server interval as the new interval and assumes that you want the unit consumption to stay the same. For example, if your page load test had a page load interval of 2 minutes, and an HTTP server interval of 1 minute, you can choose a new single interval of 1 minute and a page load timeout of 7 seconds.

Adjusting the timeout too low can cause the test to time out before the web page has been successfully loaded and measured, which may cause false alerts. When adjusting timeouts, make sure there is a reasonable buffer between the baseline performance of your test and the timeout selected.
