# DNS

These Connected Devices tests fall into the category of ThousandEyes [DNS layer tests](https://docs.thousandeyes.com/product-documentation/tests#dns-layer) (see [Tests](https://docs.thousandeyes.com/product-documentation/tests) for more information about our layers). Like other ThousandEyes DNS layer tests, our tests measure the time it takes to translate a hostname into an IP address. Our DNS resolution test allows you to choose from multiple methods to test the response time of DNS queries against a domain, but without necessarily having to specify the server.
