# Why Are Regular Chromium Upgrades Needed?

Regular Chromium upgrades are needed in order for our synthetic tests to accurately mimic the true browser experience of a user, because most organizations actively ensure that the browsers on users' laptops and desktops are up to date.

In the past, both ThousandEyes and our customers have been negatively impacted by a few conditions within the Chromium open source project:

* Chromium updates are not backwards compatible with one another. In our case, this meant that transaction test scripts that worked on a previous version of Chromium might need re-working to run on a later version of Chromium.
* Updates from the Chromium open source project are not always announced ahead of time so there’s less forward visibility for teams that rely on Chromium within their own toolsets.
