Templates
A template is a suite of ThousandEyes resources designed for monitoring a target, based on the best practices for that particular type of target.
The ThousandEyes platform offers templates for common use cases such as monitoring a web server, as well as for popular third-party applications such as Cisco Webex. When you use a template, you can quickly deploy ThousandEyes resources - tests, labels, and dashboards - that are designed for what you need.
Prerequisites
Permissions
To view and deploy templates, you must have the following permissions:
API access
Edit labels
Edit dashboards for all users in account group
Edit Test Templates
Edit tests
View Test Templates
Units
Your ThousandEyes account must have sufficient units available for deploying new tests. For more information about ThousandEyes units, see About Usage Units.
Certifications
Certified templates are verified by the ThousandEyes team or in collaboration with trusted third-party partners, and comply with ThousandEyes monitoring best practices. Templates can be certified as Created by ThousandEyes, Certified (by ThousandEyes), or Partner (certified by a ThousandEyes partner).
Created by ThousandEyes
Templates created by ThousandEyes are created internally by ThousandEyes for common use cases that can also serve as a quick way to get started with the platform.
ThousandEyes Certified
ThousandEyes certified templates are configurations that follow a documented ThousandEyes monitoring best practice. The key difference between ThousandEyes Certified and Created by ThousandEyes is that ThousandEyes Certified are associated with a "Best Practices Guide" in order to address more complex use cases. Partner Certified
Templates that have been created in collaboration between ThousandEyes and third-party partners are Partner Certified. Partner certified templates create a consistent experience for monitoring third-party services through the ThousandEyes platform. Partner certified templates are configured in a way that is fully supported by these third-party partners, which makes troubleshooting a lot easier.
Onboarding
As a new ThousandEyes user logging in for the first time, an intial setup screen offers the option to select and deploy templates. This allows you to get a few monitors set up quickly so you can get familiar with the platform and to get the most out of ThousandEyes. This onboarding experience is available until you deploy your first test.
Optional: Select areas where you'd like more visibility. This gives us more insight into how our platform can help you meet your monitoring goals.
Select from a list of templates for services you'd like to monitor. You can select more than one.
Continue to Deploying a Template.
After you have deployed your first test, you can use the Start Monitoring button for a similar experience. For more information, see Select a Template via Start Monitoring.

To get monitoring set up quickly and easily, you can use the Start Monitoring button available from the Test Settings page. The Start Monitoring button is located in the upper left corner of the Test Settings page.

Select a Template from Test Settings
Go to Cloud & Enterprise Agents > Test Settings > Tests.
At the Add New Test button, click the dropdown arrow and select Add from Template.
The Deploy Template dialog appears.
To find a specific template, you can use the Search box to filter available templates by name or certification type.
Templates can also be filtered by collections. Collections group templates by application or vendor.
Select the template you want. Continue to Deploying a Template.
Select a Template from Recommendations
The following examples use Associated Service Recommendations. For other types of recommendations, see Test Recommendations.
Go to Cloud & Enterprise Agents > Test Settings > Tests.
At the Add New Test button, click the dropdown arrow and select Add from Recommendations.
The Recommendations dialog appears.
To find a specific recommendation, you can use the Search box to filter by Integration name.
Select the option you want from the list. Continue to Deploying a Template.
Deploying a Template
The next step in the dialog shows the Global Settings tab.
Your settings in the Global Settings tab will apply to all the tests you are creating to the template you just selected.
Fill out the fields in the form.
Make sure to give your template a name. The name you provide here will be used as the test label that the template creates, which is applied to all the tests that the template creates.
Included tests are listed on the left. You can use the toggle to the right of the test description to deselect any tests you don't want to create.
Click Review Package.
On the last screen of the Deploy Template dialog, review the components you are about to create. Click Confirm and Deploy.
Look for the confirmation message that your template is successfully deployed.
You can view your template's components in Cloud & Enterprise Agents > Test Settings > Tests.
After you have deployed your templates, you can:
Set up more monitoring. Navigate to Cloud & Enterprise Agents > Test Settings > Tests.
View your updated dashboard. Navigate to Dashboards
Configure alert notifications to receive alerts through third party tools. See Alert Notifications.
