Device Agent Software Lifecycle Policy

Overview

Cisco Device Agent software follows an 18-month, time-based support lifecycle. To maximize security, reliability, and access to new features, we strongly recommend that customers deploy and operate the latest available agent version. For details, see agent versionsarrow-up-right.

Starting with Device Agent major version 7, remote updates are supported, making it easier to deploy the latest version.

Support Policy

Cisco provides technical support, bug fixes, and security updates for the current major release and the immediately preceding major release of Device Agent software. This approach aligns with Cisco’s standard product lifecycle policies.

Deploying older agent versions outside of these supported releases is not recommended and is only permitted in exceptional cases with Cisco’s explicit approval.

Support Duration

  • Support period: Each Device Agent software version is supported for 18 months from its initial release date.

  • End of support: After 18 months, versions reach end of support and will no longer receive:

    • New builds or releases for that version

    • Bug fixes, patches, or security updates

All new Device Agent deployments will use the most current version. ISPs and customers must operate the latest agent to ensure optimal performance and feature availability.

Upgrade and Compliance

  • Plan to upgrade Device Agents within the 18-month support window.

  • Running unsupported agent versions may result in loss of technical support and increased operational risk.

  • Any exception requires explicit, short-term approval from Cisco and a defined plan to upgrade to a supported version.

Notifications and Policy Changes

Cisco may update this lifecycle policy at any time, with reasonable advance notice. Customers should review this policy regularly to remain informed of any changes.
