Release Notes: December 2021

Upcoming Endpoint Agent macOS Package Change

Effective January 11, 2022, the Endpoint Agent installation package on macOS will be served as a zip archive instead of a .pkg file. The zip archive will bundle the installer package for macOS with one of the two installation configuration files (.te-endpoint-agent and .te-endpoint-agent-pulse) depending on the download options chosen. For more information, see Install the Endpoint Agent.

Update to Agent Views for Endpoint Agent

Users can now click through from the Agent Views timeline to the main view by clicking a given round. This opens the view focused on the same round and metric, filtered by the specific agent in question.

This feature is currently in Beta. To try the feature, contact Customer Engineering.

New Cloud Agents

New Cloud Agents have been added to the following locations:

  • Bengaluru, India (JIO)

  • Bengaluru, India (JIO) (IPv6)

  • Nairobi, Kenya

  • Nairobi, Kenya (IPv6)

  • Portland, Oregon (IPv6)

  • Pune, India (JIO)

  • Pune, India (JIO) (IPv6)

  • Wan Chai, Hong Kong (IPv6)

For a full list of Cloud Agents, see ThousandEyes Cloud Agent Locations.

2021-12-01 Bug Fixes

  • An issue that caused Endpoint Agents to fail with a warning message when you transferred between account groups has been resolved. This was due to an incorrect comparison of the usage plan against actual agents used.

  • An issue that prevented alerts that were configured with "sticky agents" from firing if some assigned agents were not collecting data has been resolved. These alerts now have the same behavior as non-sticky agent alerts and will continue to fire and clear even if some agents are not collecting data.

Upcoming Changes to Endpoint Agent Reports and Dashboards

Starting with our next release in early 2022, the Endpoint Agents data source for Endpoint Agent data in Reports and Dashboards will be broken out into Endpoint Scheduled Tests, Endpoint Browser Sessions, and Endpoint Local Networks in order to more accurately match what is displayed in the Endpoint Agents > Views. All existing metrics and widgets will be migrated to support this new structure.

This upcoming change is a potential breaking change for API v7 users. If you are using the reports or dashboards v7 API and fetching information for Endpoint data, you will need to appropriately update your dataSource and category properties to match these new results as shown below.

New Agent Installation Image

We're releasing a new agent installation image version 4.1 for our supported Catalyst 9000 series switches, ISR 4000 series routers, and Catalyst 8000 series routers. This image introduces bug and security fixes, including logging improvements. Additionally, starting with agent image 4.1, we now support ISR 1100X-6G model of the router for hosting of the ThousandEyes Enterprise Agent.

Feature Enhancements

In Internet Insights: Application Outages, error type names have been updated to improve clarity and organization within the filter list. For example, the message "SSL" now reads more informatively as "SSL (handshake failed)".

2021-12-08 Bug Fixes

Endpoint Agent Bug Fixes

The macOS Monterey release contained changes that prevented Endpoint Agent from gathering wireless metrics. This has now been fixed. This fix will be available in the 1.95.0 Agent release.

Internet Insights Bug Fixes

  • For Internet Insights: Application Outages, redirects are now considered in the Cloud & Enterprise Agents > Views path visualization when determining which destination notes are affected by an application outage. Previously, redirects were not considered.

  • Fixed an issue where the Internet Insights catalog providers filter was not updating when switching between Network Outage and Application Outage data sources in Reports and Dashboards.

Reports and Dashboards Bug Fixes

  • Default Dashboard Now Shown on Page Refresh: Fixed an issue that was causing default dashboard and report settings to not be applied on initial refresh of a page in certain circumstances. The new behavior is that the default dashboard for a user, as long as it is viewable in the new account group, will always show first, even if the user is on a dashboard that is consistent across account groups. In other words, if the user is on the built-in dashboard, and they switch to another account group that also has the same built-in dashboard, the ThousandEyes platform will show the user their default and not the built-in.

  • Updated Dashboard IDs: We have updated the dashboard IDs for our built-in dashboards. To access these dashboards through the platform UI or API, use the new dashboard IDs as shown below:

    • ThousandEyes Built-in dashboard ID has been changed from 0 to 4

    • Internet Insights Built-in dashboard ID has been changed from 1 to 5

  • Alert Filter Selection on Dashboard: Fixed an issue in report and dashboard widgets as it relates to our alert filter selection. The filter was incorrectly removing alert rules that users had edited, even if they were initially selected in the filter.

Temporary Change to Reports and Dashboards Widgets

From today, an update to our internal architecture will temporarily change how your agent-to-agent, one-way data will be displayed in widgets for both reports and dashboards. Previously, an active empty state was shown when a test or agent was not showing any data. During the temporary behavior, empty state metrics will not be populated at all.

This temporary behavior will be fixed over the next few months.
