# Select User Locations

## Overview

User locations represent the geographic origins from which provider performance is evaluated. In Provider Intelligence, these locations correspond to cities and suburbs where ThousandEyes Cloud and Enterprise Agents are deployed. The agents act as proxies for end-user traffic, generating synthetic tests that traverse provider networks.

Provider Intelligence displays providers only in locations where ThousandEyes has agent coverage. See [Data Sources and Coverage](https://docs.thousandeyes.com/product-documentation/internet-insights/provider-intelligence/data-sources-and-coverage) for more information.

## Key Considerations

* **Results are location-specific**: A separate results table is displayed for each location.
* **City-level granularity**: Locations are defined at the city level (for example, San Francisco, not a specific street address).
* **Coverage varies**: Not all locations have the same provider coverage in our dataset. For more information about our coverage network, see [Data Sources and Coverage](https://docs.thousandeyes.com/product-documentation/internet-insights/provider-intelligence/data-sources-and-coverage).

## Why Location Matters

Provider performance varies significantly by geography due to:

* **Infrastructure density**: Urban areas often have better peering and lower latency.
* **Regulatory environments**: Some regions experience throttling or poor service to specific applications.
* **Last-mile connectivity**: The quality of access infrastructure differs by country and city.

By selecting specific user locations, you can evaluate which providers perform best in the exact regions where your users or branch offices are located.

## How to Select User Locations

1. In the **User Locations** field, scroll or start typing a city name, for example “Aus”.
2. Select from the autocomplete suggestions (for example, "Austin, Texas, United States")
3. Repeat to add additional locations.
