ThousandEyes Enterprise Agent Appliances Updated to Support TLS 1.3 Only for WebUI

To align with our compliance initiatives, and to further improve the security of our ThousandEyes Enterprise Agent Virtual Appliance and Physical Appliance (TEVA and TEPA), we have updated the configuration of the web service used to provide the local WebUI to support only TLS 1.3. For most customers this change will have no impact, as all major browsers have supported TLS 1.3 since 2019. For customers that internally proxy traffic to your Appliance WebUI, you will need to ensure your proxy supports TLS 1.3.

Along with this change, we've also enabled HTTP/2 support for the Appliance WebUI, which will be utilized if your client is configured to support it. HTTP/1.1 continues to be supported as well.

End of Support for Ubuntu 20.04 LTS (“Focal”)

Ubuntu 20.04 LTS (“Focal”) will enter the End of Support phase on April 30th, 2025. ThousandEyes will no longer provide Support Services, nor guarantee software updates (including bug fixes) for customers still running Enterprise Agents on Ubuntu 20.04 LTS after this date. This affects:

  • Package-based installations.

  • Image-based installations:

    • The ThousandEyes Virtual Appliance (TEVA) for VirtualBox, VMware ESXi, and Hyper-V.

    • The ThousandEyes Physical Appliance (TEPA) for Intel/ASUS NUC and Raspberry Pi 4.

  • Container images for Cisco Application Hosting Framework (CAF) for all Cisco Devices

  • Docker for Linux container images.

Updated images and packages for all affected install types are available. Please take action soon to ensure that your environment is running the latest available install type images, as security patching ceases with the End of Support period and agents not upgraded prior to the End of Life date will stop submitting results to the ThousandEyes platform.

For detailed upgrade instructions and additional information, refer to the relevant links below.

For Linux package installations, see Upgrading Linux Packages.

For TEVA and TEPA installations, you can use the automated upgrade capabilities built into the TEVA UI locally or within the ThousandEyes web application. You can also manually replace the image and use a virtual agent cluster to preserve the test configuration, using the instructions here: Replacing an Enterprise Agent Using the Agent Clustering Method.

You can now back up and restore an Enterprise Agent, in case you encounter issues with the automatic upgrade process. For more information, see Backup and Restore your Enterprise Agent Configuration.

For CAF upgrade instructions, see: Upgrading Cisco Devices.

For Linux Docker instructions, see: Upgrading Docker Agents.

As previously announced in New Container Image Major Version for Cisco Devices, our containers for Cisco devices and Docker for Linux are now built against an Alpine Linux base instead of an Ubuntu base.

Simplifying the Management of Custom CA Certificates for Enterprise Agents on Docker

While ThousandEyes has supported the use of custom CA certificates for Enterprise Agents on most of our installation types, including agents running on Docker for Linux, this process previously required customers to take a number of manual steps on a per-agent basis. We have now released a new capability in our Docker container that supports loading custom CA certificates from a known location and automates the remaining installation steps within the container itself.

For more information about how to make use of this new methodology, see Installing CA Certificates on Enterprise Agents.

ThousandEyes API v6 End of Life Approaching

This is a reminder about the upcoming end-of-life (EOL) for ThousandEyes API v6. As previously announced, the timeline for API v6 support and decommissioning is as follows:

  • Support for API v6 ends: May 27, 2025

  • API v6 EOL: May 27, 2026

After May 27, 2025, all official documentation for API v6 will no longer be available, and after May 27, 2026, all API v6 endpoints will be officially decommissioned, and any requests to these endpoints will return an error.

To assist with the transition, we have prepared a v7 Migration Guide which we are enhancing with new sections and additional resources designed to simplify the migration process. These updates aim to provide even more clarity and guidance, to help ensure a seamless adoption of the v7 API.

The v7 API offers significant benefits, including improved standardization, enhanced performance, and comprehensive documentation. It is designed to streamline workflows, boost interoperability, and better support your operational needs.

We strongly encourage you to plan your migration to API v7 well before the end-of-life dates to avoid any disruptions.
